Welcome to Martin
Andrews - Glass Design
Martin specialises in designing and making exclusive hand blown
contemporary glassware. His aim is to produce modern hand made glass
of the highest quality, each piece being unique, a joy to own and
an investment for the future.
Over the last ten years
Martin has built up a wide reputation with his collectable contemporary
glass. In addition to his many clients, he continues to sell his
work through galleries in the UK and overseas, particularly in Germany,
USA, Canada and Japan and of course through his workshop at the
Ruskin Glass Centre in Stourbridge, West Midlands.
He has also produced work for film and television companies, worked
with interior designers on projects for hotels and offices. Noted
architectural projects have led to windows being created for a school
in Ewell, Surrey, a hospital in Walsall and most recently a large
glass Cross for a church in Birmingham. He also teaches glass blowing
to the students at Ruskin Mill one day a week and enjoys the interaction
and the students enthusiasm and the rewards this gives.
Martin continues to be
fascinated by this amazing molten material, using only the finest
lead crystal recipes to create his colourful glass pieces. His influences
tend to come from nature, particularly water and sunsets,
attempting to imitate his feelings within the coloured glass and
freezing a moment in time.
Martin gathers clear
glass from the furnace at 1080 degrees centigrade and then coloured
glass is meticulously applied to the surface and melted in to build
up the design and then blown by hand to create each stunning piece.
All Martin’s glass
is hand made and signed, with new collections being added each year.
The latest range is called the Salsa Collection. Salsa is an explosion
of colour, fast flowing energy and movement. These pieces have coloured
millefiori glass canes melted into the surface and are then showered
in a sea of applied bubbles trapped beneath the surface of the glass.
The collection is available in blended colours such as aquamarine,
gold and dark blue, silver blue and silver green. Some of these
have also been produced as Limited Editions, these are dated and
signed making them even more exclusive.
Other popular designs
include the Midnight Sun Series which is a blend of golden yellows
with warm aurora bases. Inspired by the Mid-Summer nights of northern
Sweden, the series is available in a wide range of shapes, including
bowls, vases, perfume bottles and goblets.
The Aqua Series captures
the passion and power of water. In a mix of turquoise and cobalt
blue the range offers curvaceous bowls, elegant vases and sensual
perfume bottles. Other collections include Haze, Pastelle and the
Standing Stone Series.
