Our mission is:

  • To provide opportunities for high quality specialist further education through providing colleges that operate in the context of creative communities, cultural initiatives and commercial regeneration

  • To enable young people with learning difficulties to engage in activities and social interaction that will help them to maximise their potential for autonomy and employability

We value:

  • an approach to working with people that is balanced and holistic

  • every individual for their own intrinsic qualities

  • diversity and celebrates the richness of difference

  • human endeavour – artisan, artistic, commercial, cultural, ethical, spiritual

  • the environment and seeks to develop working practices that are sustainable and beneficial to the ecology of the planet

  • the provision of a safe, high-quality learning environment where all concerned are striving for continual improvement and all children and vulnerable adults are appropriately protected

  • the insights to be gained from Anthroposophy, the spiritual science developed by Rudolf Steiner, especially in the areas of human development, education, the understanding of disability, nutrition, agriculture and social development

Our vision is:

To develop centres that are creative and dynamic learning environments where:

  • people are given the opportunity to develop as balanced human beings with emphasis placed on emotional intelligence, thoughtful making of products and enthusiastic engagement in work and the community

  • activity is underpinned by planning, based on a comprehensive understanding of individuals’ needs

  • opportunities for personal development are made available through the social interaction that takes place; in craft workshops, in the RMET households and neighbourhoods and in the wider communities associated with each centre

  • young people are supported in discovering an orientation for their lives, a pathway to their future

  • opportunities abound for active involvement in processes producing high quality items that are both beautiful and useful

  • the food culture emphasises the importance of locally-sourced biodynamic and organic produce

  • commercial and cultural regeneration instil life and vigour

We aim:

  • To develop students’ understanding of themselves and others, enabling them to become confident, active, and independent adults

  • To help all students to recognise their own skills and abilities so that they can think positively about themselves

  • To allow students to maximise their potential through bespoke learning and care plans

  • To offer an integrated, balanced and comprehensive curriculum that enables all students to acquire and develop knowledge and skills to their maximum potential

  • To encourage, by guidance and example, the moral sense within each student that values responsible, tolerant attitudes, courtesy and kindness

  • To foster and promote students’ curiosity, initiative, endeavour and diversity of abilities within a climate that provides challenge as well as structure and orderliness

  • As far as is appropriate, to involve parents and placing agencies in reviewing students’ progress in order to develop their understanding and supportive involvement

  • To secure the interest and participation of the local community in the progress and achievements of the students and of the course. This would include local businesses, colleges and other educational organisations
