Management and Administration at RMET

RMET is the operating name of Ruskin Mill Educational Trust Limited, a company limited by guarantee, which is the sole trustee of Ruskin Mill Education Trust, a registered educational charity.

Reg Milne and Aubrey King act in a voluntary capacity as directors of the trustee company:. They meet at least once each term and bear overall responsibility for RMET's charitable purposes and for the appropriate use of its financial assets.

Council of Management
The Council of Management of RMET is answerable to the directors of the trustee company and is responsible for all aspects of the management of the RMET. It consists of Aonghus Gordon and John Gush and is advised by the RMET Head of Finance. They meet weekly and are responsible for the effective management of the RMET's including:

  • Financial planning and control
  • Strategic planning
  • Policy regarding staff recruitment and discipline
  • Policy regarding student admissions
  • Capital development
  • Health and safety

Day to Day Management
Day to day management is carried out the Senior Management Team at each RMET college. They are answerable to the Council of Management and report to them on a regular basis.

Each Senior Management Team consists of the Education and Training Manager, the Residential Services Manager and a member of the Council of Management.

Day to day management structures differ between the sites in some details but can be summarised as follows:

Student Admissions
The Admissions Co-ordinator and his team guide applicants through the admissions and assessment process and make recommendations to the SMT at each college.

Education and Training
The Education and Training Manager and his team of administrators co-ordinate the content and delivery of students' programmes and ensure that tutors are trained, supervised and supported.

Residential Services
The Residential Services Manager and his team is responsible for ensuring that students receive appropriate residential services and that residential staff are sufficiently trained, supervised and supported.

Pastoral Care
Neighbourhood Heads

The residential provision at each college is divided into neighbourhoods catering for between ten and twenty students in a range of residential households. The Neighbourhood Heads fulfil two roles. They are line managers for all residential staff working within their neighbourhood and pastoral care head for all the students living within that neighbourhood.

The RMFEC nurse and doctor liaise with the students, those who work with them and the local GP practice.

The Support Services Manager and the Transport Manager ensure that appropriate facilities are available.

A duty and emergency management system provides an on call service 24 hours a day throughout the year.

Finance
The Bursar and his team ensure that income and expenditure is appropriately monitored and accounted for; and that the Council of Management and the Trustees are provided with the information they need to manage the finances of the RMET.
