The Research Collegium

The research collaboration of Ruskin Mill Educational Trust (RMET), Hiram Academy (HA), Rudolf Steiner University College, Oslo (RSUC), and Crossfields Institute (CI) (2009-2013) is a cooperation and mobility programme in the field of higher education, which promotes the European Union as a worldwide centre of excellence in teaching.

It aims to enhance the quality of European Higher Education and to promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through cooperation.

The programme of the research collegium is ‘Ecology of Method and Practice in Environmental and Social Education. The Masters research programme will enable Hiram Academy to develop self directed practical therapeutic assignments and methods of practice for the Trust and establish us as a learning organisation which will be unique, and a first in Europe.

The key initiative educators and researchers behind the MA programme, such as Charlotte von Bülow, Aonghus Gordon, Dr. Aksel Hugo, Sue Reed, will inform the methods, practice and the growth of the research collegium. The Masters students are associated to particular localities in England, Scotland, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Germany. The MA programme is designed to facilitate individual learning pathways and to enable learners to integrate a practical, ecological and spiritual approach to lifelong learning. The collegium will enable researchers to develop their questions, methods and critical evaluative skills. People may pursue shared goals while working within a framework of mutual trust and respect to gain individual insights.

Biography will be an important aspect; what we bring to the collegium, and how we evaluate practice and create methodologies in relationship to personal and collegial development. We recently invited a number of students for two weeks of research Feb 11st -14th 2010 to work with Dr. Aksel Hugo and Dr. Beth Barol. Thank you to Ruskin Mill College staff who hosted and accommodated us in the valley. Examples of research assignments can be found on below.

If you are interested yourself in applying for the masters course please contact Jane Tyler or Sue Reed on 01453 837609.
