Transition
'Transition is particularly well-planned and there are very effective links with Connexions and local agencies' (Ofsted 2006).
In the third year, thoughts turn to 'What comes next?': a time to aim high, but keep a good eye on the next step too.
Our dedicated transition teams work with parents and guardians, college staff, Connexions advisors and social workers to turn possibles into plans, and plans into futures.
Work experience brings out skills and interests students possibly did not expect, and may lead directly to jobs or self-employment and living arrangements are increasingly geared towards independence; for example students may spend up to a year without live-in supervision, residing in training flats, mentored by visiting Support Workers.
Around 60% of our graduates go on to work or further education: the figure for specialist residential colleges nationally is 40%.
