After RMET
Below are some edited highlights of letters, emails and visits from ex-students as published in our Run of the Mill magazine.
Samir Faruki left Ruskin Mill College in 2006 and has been attending (full time) East Berkshire College in Windsor, first doing a foundation course in media and then a BTEC National Diploma in Media. He also achieved a good result in his GCSE English Language. He is now doing a course in film studies, writing scripts and filiming clients with ASD, and then hopes to work his way into and up in the film industry.
Louis Heather has moved into his lovely new flat in Tooting, southwest London. He has started a course in violin making at Merton College and is keeping in contact with various ex-students. He would like to complete his course, improve his social and living skills and get himself a girlfriend. He also says hello to many staff at the Mill!
Katherine Kelly is living near Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, with her parents, through she is looking to get a housing placement in nearby Avening, Gloucestershire. Currently, she goes to college one day a week and helps out her parents at home. At the Mill, she loved the craftwork, the people and the smell of the wood smoke at the farm kitchen, as well as going on the Wilderness trip, but she disliked the cold air and communal mugs being dirty! She hopes to be able to put her artistic skills to good use and to find herself a boyfriend.
Michael Opara is living with his mother in London and is at City & Islington College, doing a part-time Paths for Life course. He says that his life is going well and he is also trying to do well in his studies.
Robert Palmer is living in a supported independence flat with the Aldingbourne Trust in West Sussex, and is attending Brinsbury Agricultural College doing NVQ1 level 1 Agriculture. Robert is missing the Mill and Gloucestershire, but is happy that it was time for him to move on.
Rebecca Crowther is living in Kent, doing a Floristry Level 1 part-time at Canterbury College, as well as courses in environment studies, financial management and English.
Rashida Bazzar is living independently in Handsworth, Birmingham, where she works part-time and attends Handsworth City College on an arts & crafts course. She has recently got married to a man named Mohammed and she is waiting for him to join her in their new home together.
