Education

'The need for imagination, a sense of truth and a feeling of responsibility, these are the very nerve of education'. Rudolf Steiner

Education is the Trust's 'core business', the heart and backbone of all its activities.

Inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner, John Ruskin and William Morris, however, we see education as much more than the handing-down of information and skills: it's as much about the development of moral and spiritual qualities, and the building of emotional resilience.

Most obviously, our work is focussed on three residiential colleges for young adults with special educational needs (click here to visit their homepage). But in addition to this provision, we also support worthwhile educational initiatives in other ways, including consultancy, subsidy and fund-raising.

These initiatives range from multi-million pound flagship partnerships such as the Clervaux Trust to one-off exhibitions and lectures.

And our particular understanding of education is also reflected in a commitment to constant self-development, both within the Trust specifically and special education generally.

The Hiram Academy, in particular, is distilling the lessons learned over the past quarter-century for the benefit of all working with marginalized and vulnerable young people.
