David Austin: Architect

David Austin, Architect, has practiced out of Ruskin Mill since 1992 and has been the principal architect for RMFEC throughout the development of the training facilities over that period. David Austin Architect has been responsible for the built aesthetic of Ruskin Mill, Horsley Mill and Glasshouse College and has been awarded the 2000 Stansell Countryside Design Award for work at Horsley Mill and Fishery.

In our work we try to arrive at building forms which are appropriate to the full range of functions. In addition to meeting all practical requirements a building should resonate with the spirit of the occupants and be at one with the spirit of place. This includes a respect for the character of old buildings. Our concern extends to selection of building materials and construction from an environmental standpoint to avoid harmful side effects and to limit energy use.
